Sulu DC Celebrates its 2nd Year Anniversary (November 19, 2011)
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Recognized as “The Face of DC Poetry” by The Washington Post, Sulu DC will celebrate its second year of presenting high-quality showcases of Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) performance artists at a special fundraiser Anniversary & Awards Show on Saturday, November 19 at Artisphere in Arlington, VA. This special night of performances from AAPI artists will be hosted by critically acclaimed spoken word pioneer, Regie Cabico and will feature Keva I. Lee, Chip Han, J Pharaoh & the Manhattan Project, DJ Boo and screenings of short films by Sabina England. Download the full press release.
Sulu DC Presents the October Sulu Series Show (October 15, 2011)
WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Saturday, October 15, Sulu DC will present the October show of their monthly Sulu Series. WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Saturday, July 16, Sulu DC will present “Miss Fortune: Spotlight on AAPI Women in Hip-Hop.” This fierce showcase of nationally-recognized AAPI women in hip-hop will be hosted by spoken word poet Kelly Zen-Yie Tsai and will feature Rocky Rivera, Misnomer(S), Kickrocks Crew and The Pinstriped Rebel. WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Saturday, June 18, Sulu DC will continue the monthly Sulu Series at Artisphere in Arlington, Va. June’s show will celebrate LGBT Pride Month and Philippine Independence Day (June 12). Co-presented by DC APA Film, this vibrant showcase of nationally recognized AAPI artists will be hosted by spoken word pioneer Regie Cabico and his sister, Charity Cabico, and will feature Brandon Wardell, Kevin Nadal, Jerrica Escoto, Navja Sol and two film shorts presented by DC APA Film. Sulu DC Presents An AAPI Heritage Month Celebration (May 21, 2011)
WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Saturday, May 21, Sulu DC will present an Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month Show at Artisphere in Arlington, Va. This dynamic celebration of local and regional contemporary AAPI artists will be hosted by Alex Cena and Vinay Sanapala and co-produced by DC APA Film. Diverse in age and nationality, the show will feature the following poets, musicians and storytellers: Regie Cabico, A-Class, Cigarbox Planetarium, The West Fjords and DC APA Film’s screening of “Manoj” by Hari Kondabalu.
